of Graphite and Deadlines

A random update here just to keep this blog recent…
My 4th year at a 2 year college has started. Drawing I and the long over due and seemingly pointless Web Design Concepts. The only class I have left to take to acquire the Web Design designation toward my AAS in Graphic Design.

On another note, my mentor, co-worker, and one-time instructor, has officially retired as of yesterday. I was unable to say good bye to the man, as he was involved in the interviewing process of his replacement.

Finally, I am reaching the finishing point on a commissioned website. The monetary exchange on this is minute, thanks to a little thing called exchange of services. It is awfully hard to pull income tax when there is no income. The site should be up soon, and links will be provided to the privileged few for critiquing.

All righty then, all you lurkers have a good night, this cat is off to work!

Catering Menu

"Le Menu" For Catering

This was the menu I designed for the catering job. Click the image to view a larger size. If you are interested in a menu for your business/restaurant, please feel free to contact me!

This was done using Adobe Illustrator and a touch of Photoshop. Marble textures were used and made highly transparent so as not to distract from the text, which of course is THE key element on any menu. One’s menu design should never distract from the menu itself. If people (restaurant customers) are busy remarking on your use of stars, spirals, or goats, instead of making their dinner selection, then you have failed at conveying the right message, the menu items.

Personal Chef Catering

So we have a volunteer job catering a housewarming party. Exciting stuff, get to cook some yummy food, prepare some summer drinks, and create some buzz. We just finished the majority of the cost research, and even with targeting the best prices, it has gotten expensive. It’s the one downfall to small entrepreneurial excursions, unable to buy in bulk. Well, maybe not so much unable, as much as it is simply impractical. No where to store the goods, and no scheduled events to use it up following this one.

About to prepare the comparison sheets for the client… it’s incredible how much simple hors d’oeuvres can cost!

More to come later, maybe even a recipe or two for the few lurkers who find this blog in the wee hours!

Up Coming

I’ve some work that’s come my way, and will be exporting examples and thoughts that fall in with the process of thoughts and action. The ideas vary, but at this critical point of deciding whether or not this blog is worth keeping around, we’re switching gears to a no-holds-barred, all-or-nothing, information dump!
